Many people assume that governments should proceed scientific research rather than privately owned companies. In my opinion, I fully agree that the research must be carried out by governments because of its inherent purposes and the credibility of the data.
The purpose behind scientific research from the government is mostly to serve the social needs and enhance the quality of life of their local citizens. While privately owned companies proceed scientific studies mainly due to financial functions or personal interests, the topics of the government studies have to be chosen carefully because they need to be used to tackle social problems and enhance the qualities of local citizen lives. Because of that, the research seems to be more practical for their citizens so that the result and benefits of it will reach the social easier through promptly introducing effective measures and policies. For example, the Vietnamese government agencies used to conduct an environmental science research about the types of soil in the northern mountainous area, helping the residents to find the most suitable plants to be cultivated in order to have a bumper crop.
Moreover, the government’s research has not only practical applications but also credibility data which best matches with the current local social cases. By many national periodic surveys, the science research from the government can easily have the most advanced and comprehensive data. In addition to the more reliable data and information, the result of the research can be more suitable with the reality situation which not only helps the researchers to find the solutions more simply but also can easily solve citizen demands. On the other hand, some opponents argue that private companies can also create surveys so that they can collect their own data and information. However, due to the lack of time and money which directly affect prioritising profits, the majority of companies can just survey some small groups of people, which means that their data can not represent all of the situations of people, leading to the shortening of comprehension.
In conclusion, while many both science research from governments or private companies have distinct advancements, I strongly assume that the government should control the science researching activities in addition to the purposes of serving societal needs and the credibility of the data.
