My Essay
Social media platforms have already changed the way we communicate greatly. Many people argue that social media has had a negative effect on our communication, while others argue that it has made communication easier and faster. In my opinion, it has had a negative impact on communication.
Over the years, digital social platforms have isolated many people. Because of the growing number of users who use different apps to interact with other people, a significant number of individuals find it easier to speak using their phones instead of having to get ready and go out. Many friend group members find it more convenient to just call rather than having to plan or pick a time when everyone is free. For example, studies have shown that 60% of people nowadays tend to communicate through digital screens instead of having face-to-face interactions.
Secondly, online chatting can weaken emotional connection between individuals. After all, texting cannot express feelings properly, as messages can be edited or deleted if needed. Humans need physical interactions to deepen their emotional bonds. In addition, many people state that seeing live facial expressions can make them feel more comfortable and safer in relationships. For example, many people stop communicating. Moreover, online chattering requires more free time so they can keep up, read, and type back. For example, millions of medicine students break off friendships due to their busy schedules and the lack of time they spend on texting.
To sum up, social media platforms have affected social skills. In addition, online communication can also be emotionally tiring.
