In today’s world, everything is becoming increasingly digital across all fields. Many programs that people use are now reliant on artificial intelligence and technology. These advancements are set to control many aspects of human life, making digital technologies a beneficial way to simplify everyday tasks. However, traditional handwriting instruction offers advantages that we will explore in this essay.
Firstly, while the digital world has many benefits for the community, teaching should still incorporate some traditional methods, such as handwriting. Using these old techniques can be greatly beneficial for students as they recognize and absorb what the teacher is conveying. Furthermore, copying what teachers write helps students internalize the information on their own. Notably, studies from 1978 show that 78% of students better understood subjects by copying their teachers’ notes.
Secondly, notes taken in digital format can easily be lost due to technical issues. In contrast, handwritten notes can be preserved in physical books for centuries. For instance, all my notebooks from the past still contain their original notes, whereas my digital notes from high school have been erased since graduation. Additionally, Boston University has initiated a project to collect all notes written by students since kindergarten, and impressively, 99.8% of those notes are handwritten.
In conclusion, while the digital world excels in many areas, it cannot surpass traditional teaching methods. The value of teaching with old techniques is immeasurable, producing generations of brilliant minds within the community. In my opinion, integrating handwriting techniques into the teaching process is essential for fostering the necessary skills in children’s learning journeys.
