Band 5+: Many people in poor countries die from diseases that are curable because they cannot afford the medication required. Do you believe that drug companies should make their products available at reduced prices in these countries?

One of the most miserable problems that the third-world countries inevitably confront is the death number of people suffering from the beatable decease that requires an unaffordable medication. The idea to convince the phamasuetical companies to reduce the price would enhance more chance of living. In my perspective, however, it is just a short-term solution. The root cause of the political policies on the the law and medical system should be more focused.

As it should not just be a voluntory marketing, the law issued by the government would be more reliable method to effectively control the prices of the medcines throughout the country. By legal, all the companies will have to strictly follow the policies in order to persue running the business. For example, the pricing mechanism of the drugs can be controlled by defining maximum profits they could make on their products, particulary for the curable illness, at the low percentages. In addition, tax reduction on the pills can be conducted to motivate low cost in the market. Hence, the government should play the key role in this regard as it is not reponsibilities only to the private sectors.

Furthermore, total medical system management is vital factor to save people’s live from the curable sickness. Since not only the drugs, but also the services accompanied by the other treatments highly cost an amount of money, the inadequate economy status of the poor, shamely, prevent them from the recovery. The doctor cost, for instance, is one of the most expensive expense in the medical bill. It makes people avoiding to get the cure as they cannot afford. Therefore, once again, it the government’ duty to also take care of the whole system, not only the drug price.

At the end of the day, when discussing about people’s well-beings in the country, it always relates to the politics. I strongly believe that pushing the problem to the drug company would not resolve the fact that people are still dying from not seeing the doctor when they are sick, even from a curable desease. Therefore, both public and privates organizations morarily share the responsibilies to enchance their quality of life.
