Some people believe that high school students should be required to take part in unpaid community work. They think that such work can help students learn important life skills and make them more responsible. However, others say that community work should not be forced on students because it may interfere with their studies. This essay will discuss both views and give my opinion.
On one hand, community work can be very useful for students. When students help out in their community, they learn how to work with others and improve their social skills. For example, working at a charity or cleaning local parks can teach them to be more caring and responsible. These experiences might be useful for their future careers and personal lives. In addition, community work can give students the chance to learn about real life problems that people face every day.
On the other hand, making community work compulsory may add extra pressure on students. Many students already have a heavy academic workload with classes and homework. If they are forced to do extra work in the community, it can make them tired and stressed. Some students might not be interested in community work and may only do it because it is required. This can result in low motivation and may not help them learn as much as when they choose to participate voluntarily.
In conclusion, although community work has some benefits for students, I believe it should not be a compulsory part of high school programmes. It is better to offer it as an optional activity so that interested students can take part, and others can focus on their studies
