While some feel that air travel should be affordable for everyone to travel the world, other people would argue that it should be more expensive because it causes many serious environmental problems. I agree with the latter view.
Proponents of air travelling becoming more affordable cite various reasons to support their stance. They believe that when they go to other countries, they communicate with foreign people, thereby fostering a sense of unity and mutual understanding. As a result, individuals can interact and develop social skills such as communication, teamwork, and networking. These skills are essential for effective interpersonal relationships and can help reduce misunderstandings and conflicts. Gone are the days when many individuals communicated through letters with people in nearby nations, which strengthened the mutual connection with the opportunity of travelling.
Despite these social benefits, I believe that air travelling does more harm than good, especially in terms of environmental stability. Trips by plane require massive spending on petrol, energy, waste generation, and gas emissions, all of which can not only put pressure on a nation’s resources but also have a significant impact on the environment. Consequently, governments may find it more difficult to protect natural resources, invest in crucial sectors like healthcare and education, and allocate funds for future emergencies. This financial and natural strain can negatively affect citizens’ quality of life. At a time when improving people’s well-being is important, air travel is less important than these priorities.
In conclusion, although air travel enhances people’s perspectives and individual outlooks, I think other sectors are more crucial than this. Only by making air travel more expensive and reducing unnecessary flights can governments limit environmental damage and promote a more sustainable future.
