I am inclined to agree with this perspective, as I believe that while technology can enhance human interactions, it also leads to a higher likelihood of misunderstandings and hinders the development of genuine relationships.
One primary reason for my agreement is that the abuse of technology in communication has given rise to more frequent misunderstandings. In virtual communication, individuals may struggle to interpret tone and body language, leading misinterpretations of messages. For instance, a simple joke conveyed in person with a smile maybe misconstrued as offensive when transmitted through text on social media platforms. This can result in feelings of dissatisfaction and resentment among individuals who primarily engage in virtual communication.
Furthermore, the prevalence of ill-intentioned individuals on online platforms can make it challenging for people to establish trust in their relationships. More specifically, there are numerous cyber-attack individuals and scammers who approach people on social media for nefarious purposes as personal thieves or phishing scam, leading to toxic and troubled in social relationships. To illustrate, individuals using Twitter may hesitate to form a new relationship out of fear of falling victim to financial fraud or identity theft. As a consequence, close-knit friendships are unlikely to be nurtured, ultimately limiting one’s social circle.
