People have different views as to whether the function and role of learning new languages is crucial compared to scientific subjects. While a second language offers certain advantages related to personal growth, I believe studying math, physics, and IT plays an essential role in today’s world regarding career opportunities and technological advancement.
Proponents of learning more new languages rather than science cite various reasons to support their stance. First, children can learn more about other countries’ cultures and develop personal growth. In other words, they have the chance to communicate with foreign people, thereby helping them exchange their ideas and a sense of feelings. As a result, they can make more peers, and give a hand when they face financial and emotional stress in the long run. In a world where bilingual people are more valued in the job markets, it is the right way to reduce financial constraints. A good case in point is my home country’s capital, Tashkent, where people, even university students who know at least two languages like Russian and English, can earn enough for their daily needs and the contract payment of their universities. Therefore, learning such languages can serve as a means of finding well-paid jobs and overall personal development.
Despite the potential benefits of being bilingual, I believe that math, physics, and computer science patterns will continue to be the most important in the future. Firstly, math and physics may create major opportunities to become more professional in learners’ job fields. This is because gaining mathematic and physics knowledge can contribute to their cognitive skills and critical thinking, allowing them to find well-paid jobs like accountants, teachers, and engineers in their academic lives. Secondly, owning IT knowledge enables them to shape the future they dream of and give rise to technological advancement. That is to say, these people are likely to make our lives easier and eliminate the daily work and academic difficulties, such as cleaning the houses and creating presentations for our academic performances. Gone are the days when students struggled to study other languages to earn more, as today’s technological breakthroughs have fostered the chances to find competitive work to meet their life needs without any linguistic barriers.
In conclusion, while studying a second language has undeniable benefits based on personal growth, I argue that it may be more beneficial for people focusing on scientific subjects, as they can provide people with better financial and mental conditions. Only by learning mathematics, physics, and IT, can individuals contribute more to economic growth.
