Band 7+: Many people think that public transportation should be free for everyone. Others argue that it would be too expensive and inefficient. Discuss both views and give your own opinion

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

Nowadays, many people debate whether public transportation should be free or not. Some say that it should be completely free, but the other half say that people should pay for it. I think that it shouldn’t be free of cost, but it should be very low cost because people pay more attention when they pay for it. This can also help maintain better quality services.

On the one hand, a considerable number of people think that public transportation should be free of charge, and they have some reasonable reasons for this. They think that free public transport will reduce heavy traffic jams in metropolitan areas such as London, Paris, and Istanbul. They also provide Dubai as a successful example in this case. In addition, it can reduce pollution levels in big cities.

On the other hand, other members of the public think that people should pay for transportation services because they say that if a service is provided, you should pay for it. They also think that high maintenance costs, personnel salaries, and other expenses could bankrupt city councils in large metropolitan areas. There is also a common belief that public areas such as train and metro stations become safer when they are paid, because some people think that poor people are more prone to causing harm.

In conclusion, although it is a great thing to have a free service, it does not mean that it is the best, and I completely agree with the idea that public transportation should not be free of charge.

For you to be able to follow a rule, someone else must have established the rule that you follow.
