Nowadays, there is a debate whether social media has an impact on friendships, because the way people communicate has changed. From my perspective, the appearance of different social media has brought more opportunities for communication with friends.
Firstly, online websites and apps enable people to find fascinating friends from the whole world, which makes chatting easier and accessible. Since more online accounts are made teenagers and adults can connect with others who share the same hobbies or interests, regardless where they live. This way of forming friendships was impossible even 15 years ago. Furthermore, I believe that social media has considerably improved friends’ conversations.
Secondly, the maintenance of friendships has become effortless, due to many possibilities of texting and having phone calls at any time. In the past, when families used to move to another city, it often meant losing old friends. However, today a quick message can extend friendships, relationships and connections. Even friends who live in different countries can share everyday moments through social media, maintaining a sense of closeness despite the physical distance.
In conclusion, I reckon that social media has positively impacted friendships by expanding our social circles and helping us maintain relationships across distances. When used wisely, it can strengthen, rather than weaken, the bonds between friends.
