It is widely believed that social media has resulted in people being less active in real life. While some sides of social media can bring individuals several benefits, an enormous drawback lies behind this technology. There is no denying that such platforms have a significant impact on people’s lives, and I completely agree that social media turns them into unsocial individuals.
Social media poses many facilities to the public, while these advantages may affect them negatively, particularly in communication. Nowadays, the majority of citizens usually keep in touch with others on social media. For example, after the introduction of mobile phones, not only have most people started contacting each other, but they have also started uploading content about their daily life on social media. As a result, some platforms, particularly YouTube, Instagram and Telegram reduced the public’s interest in being active in real life.
On the other hand, social media could be beneficial for people who live in remote areas. Many people who live in distant urban areas have been struggling to communicate with each other until social media offered them access to keep in touch. For instance, many family members who immigrate to the foreign countries can chat with their relatives even though they are in remote locations. However, in my opinion, pros cannot outweigh cons since there is one of the most negative effects lying behind social media which can make people unsociable.
To sum up, social media is responsible for people being unsociable in reality although it has some advantages for the public. In my perspective, people should try not to be online and try to be active in real life to alleviate this problem.
