Band 7+: Many people who commit crime have a low level of education. Are education courses in prison the best way to reduce crime rates. To what extend do you agree

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

It is argued that education programs in jail are the most viable solution to alleviate offense rates, as offenders usually stand out with their poor education levels. I completely agree with this opinion because, thanks to a proper training program, ex-prisoners can find good jobs after release, and they become more aware of human rights and the layout of society.

One reason why the notion that an educational initiative in prisons would reduce the rampant crime rates makes sense is that after a comprehensive educational program, individuals can pursue job opportunities after completing their penalties, and therefore, they would no longer suffer from poverty. In other words, poverty is the most prevalent reason that drives people to commit various crimes, ranging from burglary to theft. Hence, if they obtain a degree during their jail terms, they can be recruited for a job that provides a sufficient amount of income to get by. Consequently, these employed people would steer clear of committing another felony. Robert Downey Jr. is a prime example, who became a Hollywood star after a 5-year’s prison sentence, and stands out as a perfect citizen nowadays.

Educational support in prisons, on the other hand, would increase the awareness of human rights and the significance of personal freedom. This is because, it is through educational backing that culprits can embrace the importance of fundamental rights, as teachers would persevere in explaining the meaning and the necessity of rules and social norms. Therefore, after rigorously planned educational seasons, many culprits can be convinced to not repeat their inappropriate behaviors when they blend into society again. For instance, if individuals are more conscious of the borders of privacy, they will inevitably strive to avoid committing crimes.

In conclusion, I totally agree with the notion that educational courses in jails are a superior way to decrease crime rates, as individuals can obtain a consistent salary, and adopt the vitality of human rights after meticulous training programs.
