It is universally acknowledged that a significant portion of students face challenges in sustaining concentration during school lessons these days. From an educational standpoint, I believe the rationale behind this phenomenon lies in the teaching methods of lecturers and students’ lack of energy. This essay will first delve into the aforementioned reasons, before suggesting some viable solutions to overcome this issue.
The delivery of instruction, firstly, plays a crucial role in influencing learners’ attention spans. This manifests starkly in Vietnam, where learners often find themselves disengaged and demotivated because a lecture-based approach is prevalent. Teachers lecture continuously, leaving minimal room for students to express their ideas, resulting in monotonous lessons that fail to inspire participatory learning. Additionally, students’ fatigue resulting from personal circumstances, also distracts learners from their studies at school. To be specific, during the school year, some students have to take on part-time employment to meet educational expenses. Therefore, they have limited time to regain energy for a new session the following day. The exhaustion further hinders their ability to concentrate on lessons.
To tackle this problem, both teachers and learners should make endeavors to address the issue from their respective sides. On the teachers’ side, giving students more opportunities to raise their opinions and interact with the teachers can effectively motivate students to pay more attention to the lessons. By fostering student participation in discussions, teachers will leave more space for students to get involved in a more dynamic learning environment. Moreover, learners on their side should allocate sufficient time to rest before attending classes. If they need financial support, getting a tuition fee loan from national banks is beneficial in alleviating the burden of overtime work, thereby saving more time for students to rest. Furthermore, they should also maintain a balance between studying and other activities in their daily life, to maintain enough energy during classes.
In conclusion, the underlying causes of students’ attention deficit are the pedagogical strategies of teachers and the low energy levels of students. To mitigate this problem, educators should embrace more interactive pedagogical approaches, while students ought to prioritize adequate rest and strike a balance between their studies and other activities.
