Modern education system tend to equip young people with the knowledge and skills they need for their future, however some compulsory subjects are considered irrelevant and spending time unneccessarily. I hold a neutral attitude towards this view.
One major reason why I believe additional subjects may reduce students’ productivty and motivation is that an overloaded curriculum can place unnecessary academic pressure on students, leaving them with less time and fewer opportunities to develop their potential. For instance, students who struggle with concentration may find it similarly difficult to focus on multiple fields at the same time. Therefore, they can totally lose their productivity, especially when they can’t maintain balance between their interests and education.
On the other hand, overlooking other fields may cause numerous issues in future. Most of the companies seek employees who are knowledgeable and open-minded rather than people who are specialized in a single field. Prestigious workers will always be preffered due to their various skills such as science, language, maths, geography or even art. For example, some people are highly successful in their own fields, they may be eliminated in workplace due to their limited general knowledge and lack of broader skills.
In conclusion, although compulsory subjects broaden students’ horizon, requiring them to study irrelevant subjects may negatively affect to their mental health.
