It is often argued by a group society that religion ought to be taught in schools while others opine that it must be prohibited. This essay will analyze both views. As far as I am concerned, I am in favor of the latter notion.
To commence with former idea, students have an opportunity to understand different religion cultures, traditions and rites and rituals. They can imbibe the teachings of some religion which could be beneficial for the society. For instance, a survey was conducted by Education Department of India in 2020, which revealed that students who opted religion as an elective subject to study have joined NGO organizations which helps orphans offers them with food, clothes and shelter for their survival. Hence, teaching these kind of subjects will create a positive impact on an individual personality and also makes him knowledgeable.
Shifting towards the latter view, this subject should not be taught in learning institutions as children are immature during school age. It may lead to a sense of discrimination among students. To explain it, students might argue over the beliefs and cultures of any religion which could to a fight among school students. For example, an article was published in Hindustan times in 2018, which showed that two different religious groups argued over the beliefs of other religion which ended up as riot. Therefore, giving education about these subjects could have an adverse impact on society.
To conclude, learning this subject would provide a great source of information about religious backgrounds. Yet, I opine that it is better to be avoided and focus should be given to other academic subjects.
