Band 5+: Many young people leave school with negative attitudes towards learning. What are the causes? How to encourage young people to study

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

Most young people spend their time in school, reducing learning process after school. Instead of seeing education as a bridge for better opportunities, regarding it as a pressure and anxiety. Therefore, creating practical and analytical lessons can effectively improve educational development.

Excessively focusing on tests may weaken the purpose of education. The problem is competition between students is more significant than learning the important concepts. Trying to be advanced in class becomes a huge responsibility, and pressure for students. Furthermore, education systems now focus on one-way teaching method even students have different abilities and passions. Some students who passionate in fields such as music, technology, practical business or economy find themselves as underperforming students when they aren’t fully recognised by school leaders. Moreover, weakening personalised learning becomes significant today. If students are overly influenced by others’ choice in their education, obeying blindly becomes instead of deciding by themselves of how to learn and find solutions. Consequently, students can lose own learning after school.

To address this issue, connecting classroom lessons with real experience is the most effective approach to improve their education. Instead of focusing only on academic scores, improving problem solving skills, building ideas reasonably, and applying knowledge in real life are more critical. For instance, learning science through environmental problems, and mathematics for managing budget, counting, and evaluating information is more beneficial. In addition, students should have the opportunity to choose the areas that they want to pursue. Parents should understand the difference between encouraging and forcing to advocate children education. Not only recognising children ‘s results but they also should guide them to persist their learning.

In conclusion, insufficient support for personalised thinking causes problems when education heavily prioritizes on outcomes, one-way teaching approach, and over-controlling. If young people see edication is a door to open their future, they may understand to continue learning process. Finally, a well-structured edication system is not controlling students to learn, but it is making them to persist their own learning independently.
