In recent years, the expansion of livestock land is significantly greater than that of crop production, which leads to the fact that open land becomes increasingly limited. In this essay, I will point out several solutions that should be adopted by the government to improve the situation and the consequences of these actions.
The first measure that should be taken is encouraging greens and a less meat lifestyle. This includes introducing healthier diets and offering educational programs about nutrition for residents, who are usually influenced by appealing advertisements and social media. Particularly, the popularity of global fast food stores contributes to the excessive consumption of meat products, such as fried chicken, hamburgers or beefsteaks. People gradually prioritise instant gratification and ignore the long-term negative effects on their health. By educating people, the government can raise people’s awareness about the importance of a diverse nutritious diet, including more vegetables, nuts and dairy products, enhancing overall social well-being. As a result, people can have a desire to reduce meat consumption in the future.
Moreover, it is crucial to encourage farmers to reduce the level of meat production. These people, who have to interact and take care of animals every day, may face many serious health problems caused by animals’ emissions. For example, people owning cow or horse farms tend to have respiratory diseases as they inhale carbon dioxide and nitrogen substances released from their livestock. Consequently, the government can relieve this problem by offering farmers alternative options in planting or producing other items. This, however, may lead to confusion among farmers since they usually neglect the harmful effect of raising animals as well as being familiar with this job in their daily lives, potentially putting them under pressures to maintain a sustainable life.
In conclusion, I believe that different actions can be taken to reduce the impact of meat production on land, including raising awareness about green diets and supporting farmers who raise livestock. However, since the culture of eating meat has been common amongst people, this measure may need longer to be completely successful, especially for those who earn a living by producing meat products.
