There is well known fact that individuals’ characteristics and abilities can vary due to gender differences. Consequently many people argue that females tend to excel in specific kind of jobs, while men in others. My personal belief is that even though there are some manual labour jobs that require a stronger physique and thus more suitable for man, most of the career opportunities on the labour market are gender neutral.
Never before have the frames of gender determined job occupations been so blurred than nowadays. Indeed, employment requirements are shifted from the strict stigma of certain positions being occupied by males or females. In fact, the make up industry that historically is known to be driven by females is now male dominated. On the contrary, there are more women holding executive positions in the corporate field, that was not even imaginable in the past.
By contrast, it can be argued that occupations that require heavy manual labor is still strongly associated with males due to their higher physical abilities. The work in construction or mining combs is indeed requires high stamina and strength, and not many women would be willingly to have it as their occupation. Survey from 2024 claims that the percentage of the males in the manual work field remained stable for the past 5 years
In conclusion, even though there are some specific work fields where employability can be defined by gender, the majority of people do not restrain their career paths by gender stereotypes.
