Band 6+: Modern forms of communication such as email and messaging have reduced the amount of time people spend seeing their friends. This has had a negative effect on their social lives. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

In recent years, the rise of modern communication methods, such as email, messaging apps and social media platforms, has transfigured the way people interact, and some people consider that generally it has a negative impact on people’s social lives.

There is no doubt that the emergence of these communication methods has caused people to change the way they communicate. However, I strongly disagree that using these apps can have a negative effect. On the contrary, modern communication tools allow people to stay in contact with their friends regardless of geographical boundaries.

In the pre-digital era, long distance communication was limited to letters or expensive international calls, so this capability makes maintaining relationships easy and low-cost. On the other hand, people who live in different countries can spend more time with their friends and parents also, they would be able to share their daily experience easily.

As far as we know, people always struggling with their own problems, so they tend be short of time therefore these methods of interacting have given the chance to keep touch with others. However, talking online can make people less close. When we see each other face to face we can see smiles and emotions but in messaging apps, we can’t understand felling as well. In addition, a message can be misunderstood, and it can cause problems.

In conclusion, it is difficult to argue that modern forms of communication have had a harmful influence on our life. I believe that these tools have improved our friendships. In fact, new communication methods created more opportunities for making new relationships regardless of physical location.
