In contemporary society, the percentage of couples who don’t want children has been on the rise, leading to a debate about the potential reasons. Some say that these couples are selfish, while others think that because of living conditions such as overpopulation and independence. In this essay, I will discuss both perspectives.

In broad speaking, some people argue that couples are selfish because they do not want to take on the responsibility of having children. They prioritize enjoying life by traveling, visiting friends and family, and feeling relaxed at home. Moreover, they believe that the idea of having a child costs so much because they have to pay for the child’s healthcare, education, clothes, and many other things.

On the other hand, many couples decided to be childfree because of unsustainable circumstances for the child’s life, such as overpopulation and price rises of living, this may lead to many consequences, such as lack of independence.

However, I believe that both perspectives are correct in specific cases. Couples who live in a country with a low or medium population density, and are able to fully cover all the child’s expenses and needs, should have at least one child. Couples who live in a country with overpopulation or don’t have the financial capacity to cover the child’s expenses and needs, I strongly agree with them if they decide to be child-free.

In conclusion, the idea of having no children is a complex issue. In general, people should make their decisions depending on circumstances instead of their personal desires.
