Band 5+: More and more people are relying on the private car as their major means of transportation. Describe some of the problems over-reliance on cars can cause, and suggest at least one possible solution.

A greater number of people now depend on their personal cars as their main form of transportation, this can lead to many problems to the environment and mankind itself.

Firstly one of the major problems of this issue, is the impact it has on the environment .As more people are encouraged to use their own personal car ,more toxic fumes are released to the environment, most of these fumes have been shown to increase the effect of global warming and hence climate change. The fuel’s used to provide power to these car’s to work are usually sourced from non-renewable resources which are mostly dug up from the earth and hence used unsustainably.

Secondly, the effect this issue has on mankind is overwhelming, as many people use their private vehicle’s daily to travel over, even short and unessasary distances, this can lead to overcrowding on roads and unmoving traffic being a very common thing. This may also lead to the amount of toxic fumes released by these vehicle’s increasing as more vehicle’s are used hence reducing the purity of air for humans to respire in, this can lead to a rise in many diseases and deaths as more carbon dioxide and other toxic gases pass the amount of oxygen left in the air.

A initiative governments can take that may act as a possible solution, is increasing the prices of cars and other vehicles and reducing the prices paid for public transport. Aswell as ensuring that public transport is a safe and clean alternative for all that may require it. Another step the government can take is raising the price for car fuel and hence with this rise in cars and car fuel prices, more people are discouraged to buy private cars of their own and instead have to pursue forms of public transport in order to afford a living, which if the above initiatives are taken by the government will be a better experience for all.

In conclusion with all the problems associated with this issue, its’s better to act on the solutions before effects of this issue could get any worse and to die down the trend of peoples overreliance on personal cars.
