In recent years, private cars have been the primary mode of transportation and very commonly found in many parts of the world. While it gives us convenience and comfort, it also has a lot of problems. This essay will look at these problems and propose a solution.
One of the most common problems is traffic congestion. As a lot of people use their own vehicles, roads become overcrowded. This leads to a long delay for the traffic resumes and a lot of frustration among drivers. Furthermore, a lot of cars could contribute to air pollution and emit greenhouse gases, which causes climate change. This doesn’t only affect the environment, but also the people’s health in city areas especially respiratory problems.
A lot of vehicle usage could also lead to shorter effectiveness of roads. Continuous usage of cars could lead to roads needed more maintenance than usual. The cost of road maintenance is staggeringly high. Additionally, public parking spaces are limited. More parking spaces will be needed which reduces lands for parks or community areas. A small country that doesn’t have much land, like Singapore, would have a huge problem in these issues. To tackle those issues, a solution is to expand and improve public transportation such as trains, buses, and metro. Government can try to persuade people into changing from private car use to public transportation. Improve the quality of public transportation such as reduced cost, shorter time usage, and expanded routes for the entire city. Additionally, the government can also promote cycling as an option to travel more eco-friendly on land and reduce the emissions of greenhouse gases.
In conclusion, while the private cars give us convenience to travel between places, it also creates numbers of problems. By expanding and improving the public transportation is a method to take a step towards less car dependency.
