Band 4+: More and more people are relying on the private car as their major means of transportation. Describe some of the problems over-reliance on cars can cause, and suggest at least one possible solution.

People nowadays choose private car as their main transportation. This essay will explain the drawbacks that possibly caused by this phenomenon and complete with a solution. Overall, the overuse of private car by most of people will cause traffic jam, air pollutions, and lack of parking area.

In a crowded city, where the population is out of control, using private car will cause traffic jam especially in particular going to work or going to home hour. To overcome this, people should wake up earlier than they normally do because they need a very long time on their way to office or school. Not only for the private car user, people who use motorbike and buses will experienced the same thing, moreover, if there is no specific way for the other transportation user to pass. Compare to motorbike and public transportations, using car can cause more air pollutions that will decrease the air quality in the city or area. This will end up to several health problems related to lung, eye, and skin diseases. Moreover, using car means using more space. For instance, some mall, coffee shops, and even bookstore usually can not afford a wide parking space. If there are many customers use their personal car, these places will experienced lack of parking area. Another customer must be concerning this problem. People will hesitate to go to a shop with lack of parking space.

For the traffic jam and lack of parking area problems, we can initiate and apply a solution called ‘odd-even police’ A lot of country has applied this. One of them is Indonesia, particularly in some urban city like Jakarta. They use this system to prevent traffic jam. Basically, there is only either car with odd or even police number of car can cross the road. Both can not be use in the same time. This system can lowering the car use almost double. Personal car is possibly the most comfortable transportation for ourselves, but it is important to think about others too. It is better to use a personal car for some people in it. This small action will prevent traffic jam, air pollutions, and lack of parking area.
