Band 8+: More and more people in developing countries are moving to more developed countries these days. What are the causes of this development? What effects can this lead to?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

More and more people, especially younger ones, migrate from developing countries to developed ones. This trend has several causes and effects, which will be discussed in this essay.

One of the main causes is better employment opportunities. People are often not satisfied with jobs in developing countries. Meanwhile, developed countries offer higher salaries, more comfortable work schedules, and better working conditions for the same labor. Another reason is for educational purposes. Developed countries have better teaching staff, materials, and programs. Therefore, many students try to move to another country to get a qualified education. In contrast, developing countries may lack the financial resources or qualified staff to provide these features. For example, the most highly rated universities are located in the United States or the United Kingdom, both of which are well-developed. Therefore, many students aspire to study in these countries.

One effect of this phenomenon is economic growth in developed countries. Migrants tend to fill vacancies, pay taxes, and consume products, all of which contribute to a country’s budget. So, the government’s financial aspects benefit from migrants. However, there is also a negative effect, namely overcrowding. The more migrants there are, the larger the population in a country. As a consequence, there might be a lack of space and overcrowding in public transportation, facilities, and even in healthcare or educational centers. For instance, New York is a highly developed city, and many people from Central Asia and East Asian countries have moved there. As a result, the city is one of the busiest in the world, with many traffic jams and a lack of affordable accommodation. Therefore, the United States has restricted visa issuance, and people can only get one in rare cases.

In conclusion, while better job opportunities and educational aims are the main reasons why people migrate to developed countries, the potential consequences include a positive impact on the economy and a negative effect of overcrowding in certain

areas.
