In recent years, with the fast – increasing development of technology, many people provide their personal details in social networks for purposes such as socializing and banking. Although this phenomenon might have some disadvantageous impact on users, I believe that the benefits are more significant than its disadvantages.
On the one hand, the negative side associated with this tendency is potentially severe. Putting personal information on the social network leads to privacy risks. Since it is accessible for users to update their personal details online, there are more opportunities for cybercriminals to hack into private data. Once details such as identifying ID, phone number or password are leaked out, hackers can easily collect an individual’s information for unlawful purposes such as stealing money or selling narcotics.
On the other hand, updating personal information online might be a beneficial development for people due to two main reasons. This first and foremost is the ease and convenience in communication. Once personal details are uploaded on social media, individuals can easily connect with others by finding their contact information from their accounts . This helps users chatting and messaging through electronic devices instead of face – to – face conversation. Additionally, with the rise of shopping online, a large number of people enjoy purchasing stuff through the internet due to the financial merits. Instead of visiting the shops for payment, people nowadays are able to pay commodities and services through online banking and payment methods such as QR codes for time – saving.
In conclusion, as what have shown that updating private information online will pose a risk of personal information intrusion, I still believe that the benefits such as the convenience in communication and online payment outweigh its disadvantages. Therefore, from my point of view, leaving personal details on social media is a positive development.
