Nowadays, people are spending large amounts of money on their appearance to alter them to look younger than their actual ages. This essay will discuss the major reasons and suggest my own perspective.
This rising trend is mainly rooted from social perspectives. It is undeniable that beauty standard plays a crucial role in the contemporary world, generating needs for the public to conform to it. Having a youthful appearance has a direct connection with this. People who fits in the standard can easily gain the so-called beauty privilege, for instance, a better treatment from others, or a wider range of career selections. In addition, ‘being old’ can be considered as an insult for many individuals, which leads to them trying hard to escape from this statement.
From my perspective, this particular development is firmly unfavorable and concerning. It has undermined the deep human values to only superficial elements. Huge amounts of money can be used more wisely on other necessary aspects of lives, such as education and accommodation, rather than on adjusting how they look. Furthermore, it can be burdensome for individuals who do not actually want to look younger, since others may view them negatively.
In conclusion, the key reasons behind people wanting to look younger is to conform to beauty standard to be privileged, and to minimize insults from their aging look. Personally, I contend that this is an adverse progress for the society as it can encourage superficiality among the society, and can result in a waste of money.
