Opinions are divided on whether sports facilities should be invested in solely for athletes or for individuals. In my opinion, money should be used for both purposes.
On the one hand, athletes practising with the most modern and high-quality equipment will create two main benefits. First of all, it will support them to reach their full potential and increase the chance of winning medals in international sports competitions. Consequently, the nation where they were born will be recognised internationally. Take Brazil, a famous football country, as a good example. Another advantage is that it will help a country develop economically. Many athletes have become brand ambassadors for both national and international products because sports fans who are inspired by their hard work and sports spirit want to support them by purchasing those products.
On the other hand, people argue that money should be spent on sports facilities for ordinary people because it is beneficial to improve public health. With the advances of technology, more individuals embrace a sedentary lifestyle with little or no exercise. It leads to common health problems such as obesity. Therefore, if sports facilites are provided freely for people, it may encourage them to practice more. Secondly, individuals are paying for taxis, so it seems to be unfair when money is only used for athletes.
In conclusion, national recognition and the economy may be benefited when money is only spent on sports facilities for athletes. The government should not overlook the benefits that individuals can achieve from using sports facilities, including public health development and social fairness.
