There are certain groups of people who believe that news should not convey subjective ideas or information; it should be completely objective. Although subjective news fosters diverse opinions, I contend that it also brings numerous negative consequences for society; therefore, I strongly agree with the provided statement.
Firstly, subjective news tend to be deceptive, potentially contributing to misinformation in society. To clarify, information and notions of subjective news are formed based on personal perspectives and beliefs without relevant and factual information. As a result of which, fake biased news and misinformation contribute to negative repercussions for society by distorting personal beliefs and convictions. Furthermore, biased news is a huge contributor to poor decision-making among people, as individuals tend to make poor decisions based on biased data. To illustrate, misinformation during the president selection on Twitter created a new wave of subjectivity towards one candidate, leading to unfair and distorted voices.
Secondly, objective news and information reduce divisions in society. To provide further explanation, biased data and personal beliefs foster societal divisions, leading to negative repercussions such as increased conflict and a lack of constructive dialogue among different groups. Despite reducing diverse opinions and personal perspectives, objective news sets relevant foundation in society, preventing social issues. For instance, diverse and distinct information on the same incident about corruption in 2015 divided society into two separate groups, consequently leading to social conflict among people.
In conclusion, while subjectivity contributes to diveristy of opinions, objective news prevents society from divisions and negative repercussions.
