Museums and art galleries now play a crucial role in preserving and expressing historical values. It is argued that these places should focus more on displaying works that are related to their national culture instead of showing arts from different places around the world. Personally, I am of the opinion that a nation’s cultures and history should be prioritized over international values.
On the one hand, there are some undeniable benefits of displaying works of other countries. Firstly, exhibiting international artifacts and works can attract visitors worldwide. The diversity of arts, styles and cultures helps visitors to have more understanding about the history of various nations, thus drawing more attention and attraction to these places, which can help improve the government’s revenue. Secondly, enhancing people’s knowledge about the other countries can strengthen the connection between foreigners and local residents. This is because, comprehending cultures enable visitors to understand the lifestyles of other nations, therefore avoiding senses of confusion and misunderstanding.
On the other hand, the benefits of giving priority to national values are more essential. Firstly, focusing on exhibiting works and arts from only one country can boost a sense of national pride. For instance, Vietnam has already had many resistance wars to protect the country’s independence. Hence, Vietnamese people should be given a chance to express their pride through works such as weapons, poems or musical instruments rather than displaying international works. Secondly, as there are many minority ethnic groups who are at risk of losing their cultural values due to globalization and industrialization, it is more important to preserve their culture in order to maintain their identification and also the diversity of culture of a nation as a whole.
In conclusion, while the advantages of displaying international works and arts are undeniable, I believe that cultures of a nation should have the right to be prioritized.
