Band 6+: Nations should spend more money on skills and vocational training for practical work, rather than on university education. To what extent do you agree or disagree? Write at least 250 words

There is some ongoing debate that it is skills and practical training that the authorities should invest more money in, rather than in high education. I partly agree with this idea because although vocational courses are beneficial, governments should spend equally for both academic study and vocational training.

On the one hand, there are a variety of reasons why people may support this view. Firstly, vocational training is a better choice for some who think going to the university is time-consuming and they are economically constrained. Therefore, there needs to be good alternatives for young people, for example, governments can invest in institutions like culinary school to help people to get a qualification. Also, spending money on practical training can reduce youth problems such as crime as it provides a way for young people to earn a decent wage from becoming a chef, or a mechanic, etc.

On the other hand, I strongly believe that allocating funds on university education holds considerable weight. Firstly, some essential jobs for society require a degree such as doctors, teachers, or engineers. Moreover, a degree gives better future prospects as people who graduate from university have more opportunities to get a job in esteemed companies and to promote in work. In addition, universities are very expensive, therefore governments should not reduce spending as the quality of education and facilities may decrease.

In conclusion, although investing resources on vocational training appears advantageous in certain respects, I am convinced that investing in university education is equally important due to aforementioned reasons.
