In contemporary society, it has become increasingly common for young people to idolize media and sports personalities, even if these individuals do not exemplify virtuous behavior. In my opinion, this trend has a detrimental impact on the mental well-being and moral development of the youth.
Adolescents are particularly vulnerable as they navigate through a crucial phase of emotional and psychological growth. Positive role models play a crucial role in shaping their self-esteem and self-perception. While celebrities and athletes have the potential to positively influence young minds, the challenge lies in distinguishing between admirable conduct and detrimental behaviour. It is imperative for young people to discern and emulate the right traits exhibited by these public figures. Furthermore, comparing the extravagant lifestyles of celebrities with the everyday realities of individuals may lead to feelings of inadequacy and dissatisfaction among the youth.
While role models who espouse values of integrity and resilience can enrich the lives of young individuals and enhance their overall well-being, negative influences and inappropriate role models can jeopardize their journey towards leading principled lives. It is crucial that the behavioural models followed by the youth are conducive to fostering rational decision-making and ethical conduct, rather than promoting superficiality and undesirable character traits.
In conclusion, the prevalence of detrimental role models poses a significant threat to the moral and emotional development of young individuals in society today. It is my sincere hope that in the future, individuals who embody commendable virtues and serve as positive influencers will receive the recognition and admiration they truly deserve.
