In today’s world, architects and planners tend to utilize an open plan design in the construction of various buildings such as offices and schools. This essay will examine the core reasons for this trend and explain why this is a negative development.
One of the main reasons for applying this trend is to make different building layouts less complex. What I mean by this is that planners tend to build state-of-the-art offices with just two or three rooms in order to make them much larger and brighter. Additionally, working together in one large room plays a pivotal role in reducing a stressful environment among employees and provides a friendly work atmosphere where all individuals get a chance to express their ideas. When it comes to the schools, this design is also considered as an effective way of fostering children’s colloboration skills andpreparing them to work in crowded places, which can be useful for their future careers.
Despite the obvious appeal, I firmly believe that it is a completely negative development. One of the main factors for this is that this modern design restricts personal privacy in both schools and offices, since some people really value to work independently or in small groups. Moreover, children are much more susceptible to peer force, which may have a negative effect on their personal development. On the other hand, adults can face various struggles throughout the day which can demotivate them. In that situation, working and interacting with a vast number of individuals may be a bit frustrating and overwhelming for them.
To conclude, although the reasons for appliying an open plan design for schools and offices may seem acceptable, it can be considered a negative trend due to its restricting and overwhelming nature.
