Nowadays, celebrities increasingly have the status of role models, in particular for younger people. Do you see this as a positive or negative development?
In today’s society, famous influencers are more knowingly as role models for specifically young folks. In this essay I will explain why this can quite have a bad impact for the development of teenagers.
Firstly, mimicking celebrities’ bad habits can be very troublesome for youngsters. When watching well-known people, sometimes we can encounter some quite unexpected actions from them that is not good to imitate and when unaware or unknowledgeable teenagers see this, they tend to copy that action, mistakenly thinking that it is good or normal to do so. For instance, I’ve read this one article online about a child that was obsessed with a musical artist and after seeing the artist smoke on the stage he also picked up smoking.
Secondly, greed can grow from the popularity of the celebrities. At one point, some influencers might change their priority to the pursuit for money rather than the quality of the content they’re making. This can lead to the use of fame to promote certain products to fans. Though this might sound fine but in some cases influencers’ products can be unhealthy and can put the life of their supporters at risk. Some might even advertise gamble to young fans and in some unforeseen cases fans even gamble away their parents’ money on products without the guardians’ awareness.
In conclusion, I want to highlight that although social leaders play an vital role in today’s world, in some cases bad influencers can still appear and can be quite detrimental to some obsessed, yet unaware fans.
