In recent years, with the development of social media, the beautiful images of many celebrities easily go viral on the Internet. As a result, those famous people increasingly become role models for many people, especially the younger generation. From my perspective, this phenomenon can have both positive and negative influences. In this essay, I will discuss two sides of this trend.
On the one hand, nowadays, many celebrities use their fame to raise awareness of social issues, such as global warming or racism. When teenagers follow their idols on several platforms, they may watch posts or videos about those current problems. Thus, adolescents can conceive the seriousness of the consequences and also the importance of handling them. As a result, there will be a positive trend, which helps contribute to finding solutions to tackle the issues. Moreover, as we normally see, famous people always have gorgeous images on the Internet or when they appear in public. This is because they have to follow a strict nutritious diet and work out regularly. With the increase in obesity among young people, their favorite famous people can become a motivation to help them lose weight and develop themselves. On the Internet, people can easily find lots of interviews about tips to keep fit or stay healthy from famous people. Therefore, admiring celebrities not only helps us to entertain and stay relaxed but also develops ourselves to become the perfect version.
On the other hand, there are some cases when teenagers are too obsessed with their idols and try to imitate them. As a consequence, by forcing themselves to follow strict diets or exhaustive exercises that are not suitable for their health, young people can easily face a variety of diseases and waste money on them. Additionally, not all famous people have healthy lifestyles and good behaviors. On the Internet, with a click, we can find several news articles about their negative private life. Thus, teenagers who lack insight and cognitive abilities may imitate their idols and unconsciously become bad people.
In conclusion, taking famous people as a role model might have both positive and negative impacts. As a result, to improve one’s being and prevent harmful effects, the younger generation should recognize right from wrong and choose good people to admire. Furthermore, before following tips suggested by celebrities, we should consider whether it is suitable for ourselves.
