There is a belief that employers tend to give a privilage to the people with substantial experience rather then to candidates with profound knowledge. To my mind, in the modern world person’s practical skills indeed may be crucial for the success in the workplace, therefore should be valued more. However, as education is still an important factor to consider during the candidate selection, therefore underestimation of knowledge might have some drawbacks.
First of all, experience is a more precise indicator of ability to apply knowledge and theories to real-world context. In other words, person can not only learn something but also know how to use this knowledge in the workplace. Moreover, candidate with diverse experience is more likely to be flexible and resistant to challenges, as there are high probability that person has alredy faced with some issues in the previous projects, hence could obtain experience how to solve them.
On the other hand, it is important to recognize that without proper knowledge foundation required for the position, there are small chances for candidate to achieve a success as well. When person cannot rely on solid education and theories studied, only limited number of innovative decisions or ideas can be implemented during the work. Moreover, if person has never faced with certain problem before, it mightl be hard for the employee to think of a solution without any knowledge background to rely on.
To conclude, I would like to say that while benefits of giving privilage to the more experienced candidates may outweigh the disadvantages of such approach. For instance, there are more reasons to believe that person will be able to use theoretical knowledge in the real-world context. Still, the drawback is that neglecting knowledge may provoke other risks, such as lack of the innovative ideas generated by the employee.
