In the contemporary world, an increasing number of cosmopolitan cities with diverse population have emerged in many countries. However, societies still face overcoming issues such as xenophobia and racism, and consider them as challenges. From my perspective, authorities should organise multicultural events and celebrations, and establish equal rights and opportunities for a peaceful life.
To begin with, communities from various cultural areas should be encouraged to demonstrate their traditions and commemorate their own celebrations. This is because multicultural events can strengthen understanding among residents. A clear example is celebrating different national holidays in educational institutions. As a result, it builds insight into apprentices’ mindset regarding how vital these events are, and schools them to be more polite and tolerant towards classmates from other cultural backgrounds.
Another universal step is for the government to provide equal protection and opportunities to these societal groups. The reason is that, in various countries, immigrants are considered as minorities in society and are not endowed with enough opportunities to live comfortably. As an example, in Turkey, police officers been known to not assist tourists with hardships such as being robbed by local individuals. As a result, tourists feel unfairness and are unsafe, locals still continue to perpetrate numerous crimes, and this phenomenon increases the number of crimes in this country.
As a conclusion, cosmopolitan cities are a positive phenomenon but still face different obstacles, for instance, discrimination and unfairness, and the government should combat these problems to make them suitable places to live.
