Band 5+: Nowadays, many people change jobs quite regularly, rather than working in the one company for their entire careers. Why do you think this is happening? How can companies keep their workers?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

In this competitive world, now the job workers have become very fast paced and opportunity based. They aren’t attached to a single job as they aren’t interested to remain static in their careers. Instead, they want the best jobs with higher pay, respect and opportunities which serves them the best. This indicates that the job workers have became self-centered. They want to be in demand making them feel important and making them valuable in the marketplace. So, they change from one job to another and climb to the best positions. The workers generally won’t stick to a single job if they don’t feel progressive and attached to it.

In general, workers change jobs because they want to have the best opportunities and financial advantage in the jobs they work in. Many workers use their jobs as a chance to learn new skills and increase their value in the job market. This allows them to apply for better jobs in future where they are in more demand due to their learnt skills and thus, they receive higher salaries and respect. Workers nowadays are highly ambitious and want to have the best and most respected jobs. So, they start with less prestigious jobs they can initially qualify for, to improve their skills and climbs up the ladder to the best and high paying prestigious jobs.

The main way that the companies can stop their workers from changing jobs and work for them for their entire career is having a strong purpose and cause which the workers can attach themselves with, so that they feel inclined to stick with the companies and not leave. Another way to make the workers not leave their jobs is to build up a good promotion system which fairly promotes the worker to higher prestigious, high paying positions in the job based on their skills and output. This will gamify the job for the workers which will make them be more ambitious, making them stick with their jobs.

So, this tendency of workers to change jobs will increase day by day as the competitive workers aim for the most respected and high paying jobs positions in the marketplace. This phenomenon can only be minimized by the companies if they are able to attach the worker emotionally to their current jobs with a great purpose, good promotion and salary system.
