There is a major discussion going on in society about the importance of sleep. Nowadays, a significant number of people struggle with a lack of sleep. In this essay, I will explain the consequences that a shortage of sleep might lead to and suggest ways to solve these problems.
On the one hand, not getting enough sleep may seem like a normal part of most individuals’ routines. However, even a small lack of sleep can have dangerous consequences in the long run. These days, a lot of people are keen on working extra hours to be as productive as possible, consequently sacrificing their sleep. Even though this may seem like a good idea at first, sleeping for less than 6 hours can significantly decrease your focus and ability to work consistently. In addition to that, a lack of sleep on a daily basis can increase the risk of developing brain diseases. For example, if an individual does not get enough sleep for a week, their productivity drops, and achieving success becomes harder. If this issue becomes a part of their lifestyle, the risk of developing dementia in the following decades may rise significantly.
On the other hand, there are a few simple measures that could be taken to avoid these problems. The simplest solution is to make sure you get a full 8 hours of sleep every day, or at least 7 hours under specific circumstances. Nowadays, this can be difficult because of tight work schedules and additional household chores. Nevertheless, to get more things done, sleep should be set as a top priority. Research conducted on this topic shows that it is better to delay your plans and get enough sleep. As a result, you are likely to complete tasks faster and more efficiently. For example, a person spends roughly 6-8 hours completing work and household tasks. If someone is unable to finish everything in one day and reschedules some tasks for the next day, leaving enough time for sleep, they are less likely to give up on their responsibilities and may even complete each task faster. In contrast, an individual who decides to finish everything in one go may feel unfocused and spend much more time on the same tasks due to tiredness.
In conclusion, in the modern era, the importance of sleep is often overlooked because of people’s fast-paced lifestyles, and many people sacrifice their sleep to get more things done. This can have serious consequences in both the short and long term, such as lower productivity and a higher risk of developing diseases. To solve this problem, sleep should be prioritised, and everyone’s daily routine should include around 8 hours of sleep.
