In the contemporary era, there is a growing trend for consumers to purchase items from well-known brands. This essay will analyze some contributors to this trend, and I believe this trend brings both negative and positive aspects
There are some prime causes behind this type of consumerism. To begin with, items, such as fashion products or cars, produced by luxury brands play a crucial role in showing the social status of an individual. Therefore, owning well-known goods can instill a sense of satisfaction and personal fulfillment into their owners, acting as a source of motivation in life. In addition, the rapid development of marketing and advertising are responsible for the increasing number of consumers who are concerned about brand-name products. Nowadays, a majority of famous brands are able to use appealing commercial advertisements effectively in order to attract their target audiences, because they understand the interest of their audiences. For that reason, many people are swayed by these advertisements, and then spend money on these things compulsively. For example, Dior, which is a luxury brand, has been using celebrity endorsements to promote their brand awareness, leading to a significant growth in its sales.
In my opinion, this situation brings both advantages and disadvantages. On the positive side, the popularity of brand-name goods creates a positive impact on the economy. This is because this trend can help with boosting consumption and the economy. This acts as a vehicle for vigorous economic growth. However, there are also negative consequences caused by this trend. The first consequence is that if individuals are unable to own these items, they will be considered low status, because this kind of goods can be seen as a symbol of status. As a result, the gap between the rich and the poor may considerably broaden. Moreover, the growing consumption of expensive goods can invite crime, undermining social order. For example, in Ho Chi Minh city, many people are damaged by criminals who aim at robbing professions, such as an expensive cell phone and glamorous jewelry.
In conclusion, there are lots of main reasons which explain the attractiveness of brand-name products. Additionally, I would argue that the positive and negative perspectives of this trend exist at the same time.
