Remote tourism can be disadvantageous to the environment and indigenous culture, but these negative effects can be reduced. With regard to the former, when visiting remote areas, the balances of nature could be destroyed and pristine areas could be disturbed. This is because some visitors who have poor awareness may litter legally, making these places could be contaminated. A case in point is Antarctica, where the amount of rubbish is left by tourists. As far as the second idea is concerned, outsiders could intrude the inhabited areas by little-known tribes. However, these negative effects could be minimized by requiring visitors not to leave rubbish as well as having expert guides who are familiar with local communities and cultures to accompany them.
Therefore, I hold the belief that the benefits are far greater in terms of tourists and local people. First of all, visitors can experience things which they previously solely saw in movies or books, such as melting ice, polar bears. This could be a once-in-life experience, thereby broadening their perspectives on the world. Another justification is that far-away locations are difficult to access basic facilities and infrastructure due to terrain, distance and travel time. Therefore, when businesses develop tourism in these areas, local people living here could be connected and integrated and these issues could be solved.
In conclusion, it is true that technological innovations create opportunities for visitors to access far-flung locations, and it seems to me that the benefits surpass the drawbacks.
