These days, plenty of people have started moving to other countries. Hence, it becomes essential that they adopt the ways of the host countries and change their ingrained behaviour, in order to get assimilated with the new place they are moving to. Personally, I think it is required to some extent. However, acceptance is not entirely dependent on the adoption of social norms and conduct, it needs even more compliances.
To begin with, when a person moves to another country, he brings along a different set of culture, language, tradition to a new location. This in turn, offers a opportunity for both cultures to interact, mix and learn from eachother and get influenced. This opportunity of mutual learning has developed for centuries and cultures have evolved. To cite an example, Haloween is a festival celebrated in western world. However, now it is being celebrated in India as well. To elaborate further, this has only been possible just because some westerners brought their festival with them and we accepted that. Another reason, it is illogical to expect that someone would just leave their values behind, just for the sake of being accepted by natives of some other nation. To explain further, one can not just get rid of their ways of life in a short span of time as this would have taken decades to solidify. Therefore, it is irrational and unfair to expect from the diaspora to come without their traditions.
As far as the other aspect is concerned, one must learn the ways of lives in their native place as it will help them boost their confidence and get acquinted with the residents. This, will help develop relations and friendships and better adjusted with the host nation. Similarly, adoption of the cultures of the host nation will help themselves identify as a integral part of the new society. In turn, this conformity will led others be more open and welcoming.
In conclusion, it is essential that one should learn the ways of the new people to get accepted. However, there are certain reasons that it can be avoided.
