International trade has facilitated our access to different types of cuisine. Subsequently, that led people to have more junk food than ever. I believe that this phenomenon is extremely disadvantageous for several reasons, and I will elaborate why in this essay.
The constant consumption of fast food comes with a lot of defects. One is health issues. Though it can be highly tasty, it contains a vast amount of sugar, salt and oil, which are factors that contribute negatively to the balance of our hormones and lead to potential diseases such as diabetes and insulin resistance. Additionally, It leads to people gaining more weight due to the amount of calories it has, regardless of what proportion they come in. A small sized burger has more than 500 calories on average. And the worst part is that it never makes you full, pushing you to consume even more, which results in being obese overtime. The more you consume it, the more you gain weight.
However, some think that it is a positive thing to have this access to junk food for various reasons. Firstly, it is affordable and cheap. Instead of worrying about cash shortage when going out, people who are low-paid like students and immigrants can easily afford a full meal from McDonalds or KFC. Furthermore, some consider it a practical option. Not only it is available everywhere, it is easily prepared, and doesn’t take a lot of time to be ready for pick-up, which can be highly convenient for a lot of people.
In conclusion, greater access to junk food can be cheaper and more convenient, but the health risks and weight-gain are greater, so I believe the negativities are more.
