With the rapid growth of globalization and advanced technologies, it is much easier for people in modern era to flexibly opt for living and working anywhere they want. Besides vast advantages, this tendency has also brought several difficulties when it comes to certain contexts.
On one hand, the shifting trend of labor resource around the world could benefit the workers themselves and also help addressing some issues. Firstly, for people who concern high salary and career prospects, thank to the advancements of technologies and transportation, they have seized these chances to go abroad for a living. Specifically, many developing countries’ citizens, such as Vietnamese, Indian, and Cambodian, find way to work abroad at developed countries (Japan, Korea, and Australia). Since the foreign currencies have more value, it helps them to save more money by sending foreign currencies back to their own countries. In addition, working and living in a new culture is the great opportunity for them to experience novel things and broaden their horizon. Ultimately, this phenomenon contributes in solving the lack of labor force in some countries which have high average age range. For instance, Japanese government has imposed numerous beneficial policies to boost and attract more workers from other countries.
In contrast, local residents have to compete roughly with the foreigners to get a job. An article in Korea reported that many the young Korean individuals finding out their job opportunities were diminished by the presence of foreigners. This is because the business owners just need to pay less for foreigner workers, thus, they can save more revenue. Furthermore, the trend causes insecurity and increasing criminal rate for host countries since there are lots of illegal workers and immigrants. It has created the wave of criticism and various strikes from local demonstrators at Japan, for example.
In conclusion, there are both merits and demerits considering the phenomenon. Since it is an inevitable trend, the states all over the world should work together to propose proper policies which help enhancing benefits and curbing the drawbacks.
