There seems to be a general consensus that many pastime pursuits are replaced with shopping activities. There are several reasons of this tendency, and I hold a viewpoint while shopping can play as a stress relieving activity, I would argue that negative sides of this trend are more significant.
On the one hand, there are myriad rationale behind the inclination of public to purchase commodities in their free time. First and foremost, handful of choices, reasonable prices and online shopping platforms urge people to allocate more time to shopping in our contemporary world. People are enticed to buy more as these centers, platforms, and the perks that they offer, such as “Black Friday”, 1+1 company, 50% discount, and Luck wheel encourage people to spend time and money on shopping. For instance, according to researches and surveys, most of females prioritize shopping as a leisure time activity rather than active rejuvenating activities in outdoors. In addition to this, people fulfill their self-esteem and enjoyment after purchasing a luxury item or buying costly good in a sane price. For instance, having achieved success in their field, people award themselves with luxury gifts, such as new mobile phones, laptop, or coffee machine. Thus, several reasons draw the attention of people to purchase in their free time as their hobby.
On the other hand, I would argue that whilst shopping could seem as sound decision with regard to free time pursuits, active ones should be preferred more, as they offer more benefits to humans. Firstly, instead of going to gyms, jogging with friends, taking care of plants, people prefer to surf in mall, shopping centers and platforms. They think that throught resting time they should not expand energy to something, thereby shopping seems more apparent to them. For example, people, who waste a considerable amount of time in shopping, think that meeting our daily needs during our leisure time is a kind of saving time and saving the energy after tedious work. Furthermore, there are several hobbies which entails creative thinking and congenial skills. To cite an example, chess, sudoku, and puzzles could contribute to individuals more, as they enhance people’s problem-solving and critical thinking faculty. Therefore,I argue that shopping as a hobby is a negative development as people could have allot their pastime to much more beneficial activities aforementioned above.
To conclude, having discussed rationales of inclination to shopping and whether it is positive or negative development above, I am of the opinion that whreas it seems refreshing activity, I believe that it is negative development.
