In the modern era, some users are less impacted by advertising compared to the past.
On the one hand, advertising isn’t just a way to sell a product or service; it can be very beneficial for society and business. Consequently, advertising plays a significant role in promoting a particular product, brand, or business today. It helps increase product usage and reach through various media, such as social media, television, magazines, and the like. Advertising is also very useful for informing consumers. People learn about new products, services, or promotions. For example, a smartphone ad highlights its features and benefits. Furthermore, advertising can convey social messages such as road safety, a healthy lifestyle, and environmental protection. To illustrate this point, commercials like “Don’t drunk drive” or “Save nature” inform and warn.
On the other hand, advertising has a number of drawbacks. One of the main ones is consumer manipulation, meaning advertising can exaggerate a product’s qualities or conceal its flaws. For instance, cosmetics advertising promises an instant effect that’s actually unattainable. Another downside of advertising is the potential for buying unnecessary things. Children’s toys are constantly advertised, even if the child isn’t interested. It’s also worth mentioning one of the biggest drawbacks of advertising: distraction and irritation. Constant advertising online, on TV, or on the radio can be annoying and interfere with concentration. One example from my personal life is when I’m watching a movie and a captivating moment approaches, only to have an ad immediately interrupt it.
In conclusion, advertising can be useful in some areas like business or service, but its disadvantages outweigh its advantages.
