The impact of technological advancements on people’s privacy has been widely debated. Some people believe that these technologies may improve safety in public places. However, critics raise concern on lackness of privacy caused by some monitoring devices like cameras. In my opinion, although modern tools may impact people’s privacy, the benefits of these devices outweigh the drawbacks.
One major reasons why monitoring devices is advantageous is that it may create a safer environment in public places. With the help of these devices, criminals might be more reluctant in doing their actions because the monitoring data can be used as an evidence to incriminate them. For example, in the past, criminals could easily rob a convenience store because people and police would not be able to identify their faces accurately. By utilizing security cameras, it will not only capture their identity but also record the criminal actions, which can be used by the police for investigation.
On the other hand, critics argue that monitoring devices that commonly installed in public places may cause people to feel uncomfortable. Similarly, people may also feel nervous when they are not certain whether they are currently being watched. To mitigate this issue, space organizers can be more active to socialize which areas are equipped with monitoring devices. For example, building organizers can put up a camera sign in front of cinemas to indicate that the place is being monitored for security purposes. Therefore, people can feel more comfortable because they don’t need to guess about whether they are currently being watched.
In conclusion, I believe monitoring capabilities in modern technologies bring more benefits than drawbacks. These tools may help to create safer environments so that people can feel more comfortable spending time in public places. However, organizers also need to be informative so that people can still have their privacy when they are in public spaces.
