With the development of new technology, especially the information technology, our ways to communicate with people which includes our friends, families and coworkers have experienced tremendous changes for the past several decades. The former popular communication means were replaced by the new-born.
In modern days, it is not uncommon for us to get in touch with friends who we have not contacted for quite a long time by IM App or phone call, and get replies from them in a few minutes, if not a few second. In other words, with the help of new technology, it is easier for us to connect to our friends or families. Moreover, information technology moved away most of the geological barriers that once make people’s communication be inefficiency. For instance, people from New York had been very hard to know a stranger who lived in Tokyo until decades ago, but now they can be connected by world wide web easily and on real time.
However, every sword has two sides. On one side, thanks to the new technology, we can enjoy the convenience, low cost and efficiency it brings to us. We are now able to initiate a video call our family almost from any corner of this world and share our life with people all over the world, known or unknown. We are also capable of sending text messages or sharing photos and even live-videos to our friends, no matter where they are and when it is. But on the other side, due to the convenience and low cost of the communication, we spend less time with our friends and families than ever before, which threat the intimacy of our relationship with families and friends. This is to say, if we do not take action to avoid the disadvantages comes with the new technology, our connection with friends and families will be harmed, instead of be beneficial from it.
To conclude, in order to take advantage of technology, while not be taken advantage by it, we should not rely too much on technology to maintain our relationship, even though it is advisable to make new connection with others.
