There is an ongoing question of whether household duties should be shared equally among partners. Although I understand why some people disagree with this view, I believe that dividing chores will provide a better family life.
On the one hand, some people disagree with this idea for several reasons. One of the primary ones is that it is not always possible to divide household chores exactly equally. Partners may have jobs that differ in working hours, physical effort, or stress, as well as different conditions of well-being. To explain, if a man works for 10 hours a day doing physically demanding work while his wife has a part-time job, expecting him to do exactly the same amount of household chores may be unfair and lead to some disagreements between them. In addition, in some cases, when one of the partners feels bad, another should fill in for him or her in household chores. For example, my sister’s husband always supports her when she has some issues with her health, being ready even for preparing meals for her after his long and tiring working day, and my sister does the same for him when it is required no matter how much work she has done during the day. Thus, household responsibilities should be divided according to individual circumstances rather than equally.
On the other hand, others, including me, contend that there are several reasons why it is unfair to put all the responsibilities on one of the partners. One of them is a more balanced family life. To explain, when both men and women work full-time, they often experience stress and fatigue after a long working day. If only one partner is expected to do all the cooking, cleaning, and other household tasks, he or she may become exhausted and frustrated. By sharing these responsibilities, both partners can have more free time to rest and spend together, which can strengthen their relationship and reduce conflicts. For example, one of my friends and her husband both have full-time jobs, but they divide household duties between them. While she prepares dinner, her husband washes the dishes and cleans the kitchen. As a result, neither of them feels overburdened, and they are able to spend quality time together in the evenings. Therefore, sharing household chores can contribute to a healthier and happier family life.
To conclude, although I acknowledge that household responsibilities cannot always be divided equally because every family has different circumstances, I believe that both partners should generally share domestic duties, as this promotes fairness and helps create a more balanced family life.
