The question of whether teachers have greater influence on children’s intellectual and social development than parents has always sparked fierce debates. While some people believe that parents impact schoolchildren’s intellectual and social progress more, I side with those who think that educators affect this aspect better.
The first major reason for teachers having more influence is that they literally spend more time with schoolchildren. Although one can argue that kids live at home with parents and they spend a great amount of quality time with each other, it is still worth mentioning that kids spend at least four hours at school, and even when they have come back home, their parents might still be at work. Therefore, in this case, the only person who can provide knowledge to children is a teacher. Needless to say, it is a huge responsibility that teachers proudly take and pour their heart and soul into kids.
Another reason why teachers have more effect is that teachers’ job is not only to educate intellectually but serve as an example and teach children how to behave and tackle social issues, especially in primary school. This means that even though most of the time at school is devoted to learning particular subjects, educators still bring children up and teach them etiquette. On top of that, there are a lot of school breaks where children learn to communicate with each other, and for sure there can be some rows. Consequently, a teacher should notice such situations and draw the line between the good and the bad.
In conclusion, although it is impossible to deny parents’ influence on schoolchildren’s development, I am convinced that due to more time spent together and teachers’ purpose, educators affect children’s intellectual and social progress more.
