With growing popularity of online games, more people think it negatively affects to individual’s mental and physical health. Although, video games may cause sedentary lifestyle problems and time wastage, I believe that it can be beneficial in terms of learning tool and global connectivity.
The main reason of harmfulness of virtual games is overindulgence. Prolonged screen time lead to sedentary lifestyle that result in both mental and physical concerns. People, who play without face-to-face interactions, often feel social isolation, depression, or anxiety. Moreover, lack of activity increases risk of obesity, eye strain and heart diseases. Another problem is waste of time. This means excessive playing diverts time from productive activities. For instance, according to researches, children spend an average 4-6 hours daily for virtual entertainment instead of studying or exercises.
Despite of these drawbacks, there are many benefits. Firstly, video games can be learning tool. Educational games can interest youngsters and teach various skills such as creativity, complex problem-solving and critical thinking. Secondly, online games allow player connect globally. Such entertainments require collaboration, communication and teamwork. It is opportunity to foster global friendship. The successful example is Minecraft Education edition. This game is used for teaching physics and chemistry in many schools around the world.
To conclude, online entertainments have significant disadvantages including physical and mental consequences and waste of time. However, with limits and time management individuals can have plenty of pros such as education and promoting connectivity.
